何（なに）かが起（お）きたとき、そのことに直（ちょく）接（せつ）関（かん）係（けい）している人（ひと）です。「ほかの人（ひと）は心（しん）配（ぱい）しているが、当（とう）人（にん）は平（へい）気（き）だ」のように、周（まわ）りの人（ひと）と分（わ）けて示（しめ）します。

USAGE

使うときのポイント

A somewhat formal noun. Use 当人 when distinguishing the person directly involved from relatives, observers, or other people, as in 当人に聞く or 当人の同意.
