〜際（に）
特定の出来事・行動が起こる機会や場合を示す、改まった「〜とき」の表現です。
〜折（に）は
特定の機会・時期を表す、手紙や改まった場面で使われる表現です。
同じ意味・働きのグループに属する文法です。いつでも置き換えられるとは限りません。
